New Stuff

Here are some new layouts.

Well, I just felt compelled to do this LO. Maybe you should just read the journaling. :D

Journaling:
2-10-09
Ah, the elusive Starbucks cream cheese danish. A whimsical, mythical creature. Every trip to Starbucks, I try to order one, only to have the Barista shut me down and say that they are out. I have tried to get one at different times of day, from early morning to well into evening. I have only gotten lucky a couple times out of many, many failed attempts. I just happened to get lucky on this day, when they had "one left". I felt the need to photograph the danish, to prove that it does actually exist, and that it's not something of make-believe or from a mythical fairytale. I realize that getting this danish today was very special, not likely to happen again in my lifetime. It felt like....

...like catching a unicorn

The next layout is of Bea, with a pretty ribbon tied around her neck. She hates when we try to dress her up.

Journaling:
Bea gets so threatened when we try to dress her up. She thought this pretty black ribbon would kill her!

Haha.

For any crafty cupcake lovers, you have to check out my friend Nina's cupcake shaped card template on her blog! It's really awesome!

We are almost done getting new stuff for the house. Today we went to the Home Depot (in the hateful, ridonculous wind) and got some light fixtures and new towel bars for the bathrooms. We finally found some decent ones that we liked there. Here is the subsequent pile o' boxes in my living room. Oh, that bottom box is a bookshelf from IKEA that we still need to put together. Procrastination, yo. :D

Anyone wanna come install some light fixtures? :D

Last, a gratuitous shot of Black Kitty in a quilt.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Backyard Birdies

These pics were taken several weeks ago, in my parents' backyard. They have a bird sanctuary. There are some really gorgeous birds that hang out there.

These pics were taken with our new Sony Alpha 350 DSLR. It's awesome.

Tonight.

The last episode of Battlestar Galactica is tonight. I am sad. It is such an awesome, awesome show. I can't wait to see how they wrap things up. Lots of loose ends to tie up. I can't wait for tonight's episode!! Later in the year, there will be another two-hour special that will tell the story from another angle. But then that's it. No more BSG. : (

The Post In Which I Gripe About Georgia Weather And Post Some More Layouts. And Ramble. :D

I cannot believe it is almost Spring. Ugh. Pollen and nastiness. Also, Spring lasts for like five minutes here. And we haven't even had a decent Winter. It was hot at Christmas, and we have had a few weeks of cool weather, and maybe a few DAYS of actual cold weather. Other than that, it's been mild-to-hot. I am a Winter kind of girl. I might have to move.

Right now, the weather is nice. It's in the 70s during the day and down to around 40 at night. But it won't last, noooooo. This bearable weather will be fleeting.

Because Summer is coming, and fast. I hate a Georgia Summer. Hot, muggy, humid, gross, nasty, HOT, disgusting and did I mention, HOT? From May to November. It truly sucks. We have two seasons: Summer and Not Quite Summer.

Anyway, just wanted to vent a little.

Here are some new layouts I got done this week. The first one is of Brian and me. One of the pictures is from our wedding, 12 years ago, on February 8th, 1997. The other pic is on our anniversary this year, February 8th. We are 12 years into Forever....awwwwwwwww....

The next layout is of Black Kitty, posing like a little kitty supermodel. She very rarely poses and sits still like this, so I had to do a layout using these pics.

And another of Black Kitty, enjoying some windowsill time. :)

There is a lot we want to do with the house this Spring. We have already started buying stuff--new blinds, light fixtures, etc. We want to paint just about every room in the house. We rented it for 5 years before we bought it last September, so we can finally infuse our style a bit more. We would also like to do something with the Weedy Wasteland that is our yard. But that'll be Brian's job, mostly--I kill any plant that doesn't kill me first. And some have tried. :D

We are also in the process of getting a new dining table and chairs from IKEA; we're just working out the logistics of getting it to our house from IKEA Atlanta. Renting a truck or van is always an option, and was our first thought. But our friend, Billy, has offered to bring it down the next time he comes this way for a delivery (he manages a bakery that supplies breads to Georgia and a couple other states). So, yay! That was very nice of him.

Also, I need to Spring clean. Bad. This time of year gives me the urge to purge and scrub and clean. But I procrastinate. Bad. I usually go online and read tips about organization and cleaning, and get so sucked into that, that I don't actually DO any of the organization and cleaning. I want to do better this year. At least I did already clean out a huge walk-in closet that was packed to the ceiling with crap from when we moved in FIVE years ago. That was a huge undertaking. There's still a few boxes from that ordeal to sort and donate.

So, I guess that's about all that's going on right now. I should probably go scrub something. Or at least read about it. :D

Sleepy Conehead

Sleepy was spayed on Tuesday.

Since she has an obsession with cleaning and licking herself CONSTANTLY, she has to wear an Elizabethan Collar. She will have to wear it for 7 days.

So far, she's been really sweet about it. She is such a docile cat. She was like a little rag doll when we put it on her.

It is kind of pitiful, but really hilarious at the same time. She runs into things because she's not used to this big cone thing being on her head and sticking out in all directions. So, we laugh, then we pick her up to console her because it is obvious she's embarrassed. Poor girl. But she's being such a sport about it.

Easter Crack

This is my favorite candy. Ever.

And I can only get them once a year, at Easter Time. I will be stocking up. And cracking out. That is all.

Fun Weekend

Well, this past weekend was a LOT more fun than the last one. Last weekend, we were fighting the nasty flu/bronchitis mess, and it snowed. This weekend, it was sunny and rather warm-ish, and we felt pretty well, so we ventured out a bit.

On Saturday, we went to our weekly LWW Biggest Loser meeting/weigh-in. Still haven't made much progress. Brian has lost a few pounds, and I keep losing some and gaining some. Hopefully we will find our groove soon. We still have several more weeks.

After the meeting, we went to the Big Peach Antiques Mall in Byron. We like to go on a regular basis now. Brian has found some really neat old razors there, and they have tons of cool stuff. Since they reopened about a year ago, we have really been impressed with the things they have. So, if you live nearby, check it out!

So, several months ago, on our first visit back since the reopening, we spotted this gorgeous piece of artwork in one of the booths. I couldn't justify paying what they wanted for it, but I did have a deep reaction to it. I LOVED it and so did Brian. Sometimes art just "speaks" to me, and I NEED to have it in my house. I get a lot of inspiration from art of all kinds.

Anyway, months went by, as did several more visits to the Antiques Mall. Each visit, we'd stop by and look at it. Well, this past Saturday, we looked at it again, and it had been marked down. Also, not knowing this artist's work (more about him later), I thought the piece was slightly defective since part of the sentiment/saying seemed to be cut off. Well, I would find out later that it was meant to be that way. Well, on Saturday, I didn't know that, so I asked the dealer about it, and he willingly offered an additional 20% off!!!! So we snapped it up in a heartbeat. After researching online, we discovered we got a really great deal. Even their original asking price would've still been a good deal. So, with it marked down 30% and then another 20%, we got it for half what it originally was, and it was very nicely framed, too. So, yay!

So, here it is, proudly displayed atop our mantel. I just love it soo much. It's like the missing piece our living room always needed. It says, "It'll cost nothing to dream, and everything not to." How could you NOT be inspired by that?!

Now, the artist's name is Rodney White. You can see more of his work here. He is so freaking awesome. I want just about every piece he has made. Wow. What's even cooler is that he's Georgia-born-and-raised. He lives in New York now. I might be stalking him a little, sorry. :D I am just in awe of his work.

Anyway, Brian also found a cigar box and he can now build his own cigar box ukulele! It's really exciting.

In other news, I have done something really bad to my left knee. I don't know what. But it has been hurting for like three days. I probably shouldn't have done so much walking on Saturday, because it seemed to just aggravate it. So, yesterday, I spent the day in bed with it all propped up and that helped some. But it still hurts. Ugh. I hope I don't have to go to the doctor about it.

Lastly, here's a layout I got done. The pic is from my birthday this year.

I am so loving the new Sassafras collections. Yum.

Hope everyone has a great week! :D

Scrappy New Header

Check out my new blog header! I scrapped it today. It's got a little Basic Grey, a little Sassafras, and a little Fancy Pants, three of my very most favoritest paper companies. The letters are by Making Memories, American Crafts and Basic Grey. I wanted to do my own header to give my blog a more personal feel. I like how it turned out and hope you will, too.

So let me know what you think! :D

Sweet Boy

Although the pain of losing Badness is not as raw as it was a few weeks ago, it is definitely still there and will be for a long time. He was so sweet and was well on his way to being tamed and brought inside or adopted out. I miss him so much. This Spring, we are going to plant something special on his grave to honor him.

Here is the layout I did in his memory. I will always love him and will never forget him.

Snow In Middle Georgia!

On Sunday, we got snow! It was unbelievable! We only get snow here maybe a couple times a decade. It was really exciting and beautiful!

However, Brian and I were both really sick with some kind of bronchitis/flu thing from Hell, so we couldn't go out and play in it. That made us sad, because we really wanted to build a snow/dirt man like so many of our neighbors did. Boo.

I managed to open the front door and our office window to take these shots without actually going outside.

Wow! Snow!
