Hairdryer Heaven Can Wait

So, today, I had a dentist appointment to have a chipped filling fixed. My appointment was at 2:15, so I didn't start getting ready to go until after noon. I always blow-dry and fix my hair last. Today, when I went into the bathroom to blow-dry my hair, I got a very unpleasant surprise.

I switched on my hairdryer, and nothing. I fiddled with the outlet, thinking the GFCI button had been pressed accidentally. Nope. Didn't work. I then alternated between pressing the GFCI and turning the dryer on and off many, many times. At this point, I was just in denial--a night light plugged into the same outlet was working just fine, so that told me the outlet was fine. But I persisted. It just couldn't be my hairdryer!! After trying a different outlet out of desperation, I finally called it. My hairdryer was dead.

I should now say a few words about my hairdryer. I love it. No, I don't think you understand--I luuuuuuuuurrrrvvvveee it. I have had it for about 3 years, and before I bought it, I had one JUST LIKE IT for about that same length of time. I have never wanted to try a different brand or model or anything. When it was time to replace it the first time, I bought one just like it because, did I mention? I LOOOOOOOOOOVE it. OK. Anyway.

Here is a picture of it, caked with dust and hairspray from years of loving use. War scars, if you will. It marched into battle each day with gusto.

This hairdryer has seen me at my worst, and at my best. It has helped me have good hair days, and has tried to help me when it was a bad hair day. It has helped perfect my bangs (NO cracks permitted, people!). I MUST use a hairdryer to get the no-crack bangs.

And today it failed me. No warning, no smoke, no overheating on previous uses, nothing. It just DIED. And I was sad.

So, anyway, today--here I am, with 20 minutes until I need to walk out the door to go to my dentist appointment, and I had no hairdryer. THE HORROR!! I didn't have a back-up hairdryer because that one was so awesome, and I didn't have time to go to the store and get another one and come back home and still make it to the appointment on time. So, I literally sat in front of a fan and dried my hair. Y'all. I was roughing it. For once, I was actually glad I have thin hair.

After about 10 minutes of that, my hair was dry enough to style. Thankfully, my bangs were somewhat cooperative and I was able to fix my hair and get out of the house in time, although there were some cracks. I was sad, but I went. (The dentist appointment went very well and fast, he just fixed that filling and no Novocaine was needed or anything! Yay!)

I stopped by Wal-Mart (BOO! HISS!!) on the way home and they did not have the Conair Euro. I am figuring Conair doesn't make it anymore, but I'm still going to look at Target the next time we go. I ended up getting a new shiny Revlon one. It better perform as good as it looks.

So, goodbye, old Conair Euro. You will be missed. I will place you in a cabinet corner until I have come to terms with your passing, and then I will send you to Hairdryer Heaven.

(Y'all do know I'm totally doing a layout about this, right? :-))

Ok, you are so hilariously funny! You almost actually brought a smile to my face and that is no easy feat right now! I hope your new shiny Revlon measures up - and at least it's better than the fan! LOL

Ami, you and I share the same love for our hairdryers. You have inspired me to go home and take a picture of my dearly departed hairdryer and dedicate a photo album on FB to it. My hairdryer was so powerful - it blew at like 45 MPH. I can't seem to find one with its power. I knew this would happen one day, and I bought a back up hairdryer about 4 or 5 years ago. The back up dryer sucks! How's your new Revlon working out?

Sorry about your hairdryer. All good things must come to an end, especially if they are mechanical. Can't wait to see the scrapping about it.
